About John Baker

Hi all!

My name is John Baker, and thanks for stopping by. I’m from the south, born and raised in the good ol’ US of A. I currently reside in Florida, but I’m originally from Alabama.

I’ve always loved canaries (I think it was the book Birdy that got me hooked) but when I got my first pet canary I started researching online for the best food and equipment for her. Claire, my first canary, is such a joy to have around. I love listening to her sing and watching her play.

Considering she was my first pet, I didn’t know what I was doing at first. But, I quickly learned and started to share my knowledge with other canary owners online. From there, my love for canaries turned into a hobby and then a full-blown passion.

We have lots of magical times together, but one of the special moments I’ve had with Claire stands out. One of my dreams was to teach her to sit on my finger. I know it may sound like child’s play to some, but for me, it was a fantastic accomplishment. It took some time and patience, and I thought about quitting a few times, but I’m so glad I stuck with it.

A couple of days after we started, it felt like Claire understood what I was trying to achieve. She began hopping on my finger when I held it out to her and perched there for a few seconds before flying off again. It was the best feeling ever and we’ve been inseparable since.

From that point on, the whole canary keeping experience changed for me. Claire is the reason I started this blog, and she continues to inspire me every day. I started this blog to share my passion for canaries with the world and to help other bird enthusiasts like myself.

I hope you enjoy it!
